You can choose to make an appointment with or even walk into an urgent care center and expect to receive same-day treatment. More and more people are choosing this extreme convenience nowadays when they are not able to see their PCP in a timely manner, allowing them the treatment they need for good health.

About UTIs

Urinary tract infections can be painful. They can also be very annoying due to the need to frequently urinate, which can really get in the way of one’s ability to be 100 percent efficient during their day. There are two main causes of UTIs. The first cause is when outside bacteria is allowed to enter the urethra. The second cause is due to bacteria growing inside of the bladder and reaching a level that is considered to be unnatural.

Preventing UTIs

In order for someone to prevent themselves from being diagnosed with a urinary tract infection, they will need to understand what is causing their infection to happen in the first place. One of the more common causes of urinary tract infections includes not drinking enough water, which helps to eliminate bad bacteria from the bladder. A second common cause is participating in sexual activity, which allows bacteria to enter the urethra.

The following is a list of practical ways that anyone can use to help prevent themselves from being diagnosed with a UTI.

Drink lots of water

Drinking lots of water allows one to urinate more often, which helps to flush out any bad bacteria currently living in the bladder. On that note, when someone feels the need to urinate, they should do so right away, as holding one’s urine supports bacteria buildup.

Change clothes

Wet and/or sweaty clothes support the growth of bacteria, making it necessary to change one’s clothes when wet or sweaty as soon as possible.

Get plenty of vitamin C

Choosing to eat foods that are high in vitamin C is recommended, as it helps to prevent the bad bacteria from growing. Examples of food choices include oranges, lemons, strawberries and green vegetables.

Cranberries

While cranberries cannot treat a current urinary tract infection, they can help prevent new infections by preventing bacteria from attaching to the urinary tract lining.

Need to come in for treatment?

Are you unable to see your primary care physician in a timely manner? If you are currently suffering from a urinary tract infection, you need treatment as soon as possible so you can feel better.
